The Truth About The Queen Of Soul: Aretha Franklin

More than a Voice

Aretha Franklin lived through a time where social change was a pretty big deal. Her dad, Reverend C.L Franklin, was actually involved in the civil rights movements. Reverend Jesse Jackson was also there for the ride. He knew the singer for years, so he had some pretty good insight into her demeanor. “She did 11 concerts for free and hosted us at her home and did a fundraiser for my campaign. Aretha has always been a very socially conscious artist, an inspiration, not just an entertainer.”

In addition to having a heart of gold, Aretha is also a star. And I mean that quite literally… well, sort of. In 2014, she had an asteroid named after her: 249516 Aretha. If only someone would name a star after me. That would be nice.
