The Truth About The Queen Of Soul: Aretha Franklin

Hard Choices

It’s no secret that Aretha has been battling with her weight for most of her life. However, in 2011, the singer disclosed that due to an undisclosed ailment, she lost 85 pounds. Although she didn’t speak much about what the illness was, she stated, “I’ve left that behind, I’m feeling wonderful.”

In addition to struggling with her weight, Franklin had a few more struggles throughout her life. The singer struggled with alcoholism and was a chain smoker. These are both bad coping mechanisms. Thankfully in 1992, Franklin decided it was time to give up cigarettes. She later admitted it was bad for her voice. I don’t care what the reason was; I’m just happy she gave up this dangerous habit.
