Obama Feels It
Franklin had the merit of performing at the Kennedy Center in 2015. President Obama was in office at the time, and when she sang Natural Woman, he was clearly emotional. Obama revealed his feelings toward the singer. He stated that “American history wells up when Aretha sings.”

He went on to say, “nobody embodies more fully the connection between the African-American spiritual, the blues, and R&B, rock and toll – the way that hardship and sorrow were transformed into something full of beauty and vitality and hope.” During the performance, Franklin turned on a little sass, and everyone loved it. Halfway through the performance, she took off her fur coat and let it drop on stage. The singer got a well-deserved standing ovation.
