Her parents were high school sweethearts, but by the time they welcomed their daughter into the world, the romance had ended in heartbreak. In fact, their relationship started to crumble apart shortly after their daughter’s conception.

The iconic singer was eventually adopted by Richard and Catherine Harry of Hawthorne, New Jersey, when she was three years old. Like many adopted children, Harry saw the parents who raised her and loved her as her real parents; biology didn’t mean much to her.
