Music videos exist to fuel our imagination, giving a story to the many songs produced. Musicians often loved to put young, attractive, iconic figures at the center of their music videos, so it’s no surprise to learn that even years later, these women (and even some men) are still remembered for their performances.
From “How Deep Is Your Love,” to “November Rain,” some of the most attractive models, actresses, and musicians appeared in iconic music videos. Some folks don’t even remember the song associated; they just remember the pretty face behind the music – sometimes that’s all an artist needs to make their song a huge hit! Here are some of the most beautiful women to have appeared in music videos!
Julie Ellen “Tawny” Kitaen was an American actress, model, and general starlet. She’s known for her performances in shows and films like Malibu, The Perils of Gwedoline in the Land of the Yik-Yak, and Witchboard. Most people know Tawny as the star of Whitesnake’s music video for their hit rock song, “Here I Go Again.”
Kitaen was known for dancing seductively on the hood of a car in this iconic music video. She throws her body around like she was trying to feel everything she could. She was cast as the apple of everyone’s eye in multiple Whitesnake videos, primarily because she was dating (and eventually married) David Coverdale, the band’s lead singer.
After her appearance as the sensual and seductive music video vixen, she went on to spoof her own performance. Not only did she appear in several reality shows like The Surreal Life and Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, but she also appeared in a couple of videos making fun of the original…
Kitaen worked with Funny or Die on a spoof of the original “Here I Go Again” video, in which a man is purchasing a car that comes with Tawny Kitaen dancing on the car’s hood at all times. She’s got a great sense of humor! Unfortunately, she passed away on May 7th, 2021, at the age of 59. Her brother believes her cause of death was a broken heart after their father passed away.
Bobbie Brown is a world-famous model, actress, and former beauty pageant contestant. She was always known for being a total bombshell, but she got her start as the token beautiful woman dancing at the center of the music video for rock band Warrant’s “Cherry Pie,” and she stole the show!
It didn’t take much for Brown to become the center of attention. She was scantily clad, moving her body in any way possible to appear seductive and appealing. She was seen as a video vixen for years after this performance, but that’s not how she wanted to be seen. She even tried to distance herself from the music video appearance.
For years and years, Brown tried to remove herself from the equation when it came to the music video that helped kick off her career. She ended up in a relationship for a while with Warrant singer Jani Lane and dealt with major heartbreak when he passed away in 2011 of alcohol poisoning.
Time heals all wounds, and one of those was working off the reputation she had earned from her appearance in this iconic video. “There was a time when I would go, ‘Oh God, not that again.’ I had done so many other things beyond just being in a music video and yet I was just the ‘Cherry Pie’ girl. It was bulls—, I thought. But the older I got, the more I embraced it.”
Brown has managed to keep busy since her days at the center of the “Cherry Pie” music video. She’s had other video gigs since then, representing Louisiana as Miss Teen USA in 1987, and other bit roles in shows like Married… with Children. Later in the 1990s, she appeared in an infomercial advertising an eight-CD set.
She later went on to appear in the reality show “Ex-Wives of Rock,” airing on the Fuse network. She also wrote and hosted the VH1 documentary series, “Do It for the Band: Women of the Sunset Strip.” She’s gone on to write multiple memoirs, including a co-written memoir with Caroline Ryder, entitled “Dirty Rocker Boys: Love and Lust on the Sunset Strip.”
Caroline Munro was best known as “the Bond girl” in the 1977 James Bond film, entitled The Spy Who Loved Me. She’s an English actress known for appearing in several horror, science fiction, and action films. She’s also well-known for her appearance in Adam Ant’s video for “Goody Two Shoes”!
In Adam Ant’s memorable video for “Goody Two Shoes,” the camera peeks through the keyhole and sees the musician caressing the actress’s beautiful legs. She’s got legs for days! She may not be seen as the most iconic of them all, but she’s certainly not at the bottom of the list!
Actress Caroline Munro wanted to be seen as more than just a sexy pair of legs. She spent years being dressed in clothes that were too small, showing off her many features. She went on to audition for soap operas like The Young and The Restless, but her parents were getting older, so she decided to stay back in England.
She went on to host Ted Rogers’s television game show, 3-2-1. She became a mother of two daughters with her second husband, writer-director George Dugdale. She’s stayed out of the limelight for the most part, as not everyone has a reason to stay in the spotlight!
Liv Tyler is one of the most iconic music video vixens of them all! She’s become one of the most recognizable faces in the world of music videos, and it all started with Aerosmith’s video for “Crazy”! She starred alongside actress Alicia Silverstone, as the two lived in a dream world in this music video.
The storyline for the video follows two young female high school students, who play hooky from school one day, in pursuit of a road trip. They had every teenager back then daydreaming about what they could be doing instead of hanging out in school all day!
Liv Tyler is famous for being musician Steve Tyler’s daughter. It makes sense then that she’d appear in many Aerosmith music videos! Well, it turns out that the actress didn’t even know that Tyler was her father until she was around 10 or 11 years old!
She spent the better part of a decade thinking that her father was a completely different person. In August 1988, she learned the truth of who her biological father was. Her mother, Bebe Buell, was the Miss November 1974 Playboy Playmate. She’d been in a relationship with Utopia singer Todd Rundgren, but had a brief fling with Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, which resulted in a child.
In addition to the music video for “Crazy,” Tyler starred in another Aerosmith video, for the song “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.” It’s no surprise that her father, front man for the band Steven Tyler, would want to use his beautiful daughter at the center of his production.
In addition to music video appearances, she’s appeared in a series of iconic films She is best known for her role in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, as well as in the HBO series The Leftovers. Liv Tyler isn’t slowing down at any time soon!
Liv Tyler wasn’t the only one at the center of the music video for Aerosmith’s “Crazy,” she was joined by up-and-coming actress Alicia Silverstone. Silverstone was in the driver’s seat for the entirety of the production, which could totally allude to the success that was in store for her.
Silverstone was cast in this Aerosmith video because Marty Callner was swept away by her performance in The Crush. Callner decided that he wanted to see more of her and ended up giving her a part in the music video for “Cryin,” before “Crazy” came out.
After her appearance in a series of Aerosmith music videos, Silverstone went on to appear in several major projects, like her iconic role as Cher Horowitz in the film “Clueless,” which went on to become a staple movie for teens and young adults in the 1990s.
Silverstone returned to her music video roots years later, in Rob Thomas’ video for “Her Diamonds.” She starts out as a figure completely frozen, covered in ice who melts throughout the production. The ice melts as light peers through the window, and she warms up and is free from her frozen shackles.
Alicia Silverstone hasn’t quite left her acting days behind her. She might not actively be appearing in music videos, but she’s still appearing in projects left and right. She’s known for her acting skills but has taken breaks from acting on her own terms.
Recently, she has become an activist for animals and has authored a vegan cookbook entitled “The Kind Diet,” encouraging veganism wherever possible. She knew that she wanted to be both an actress and an activist – who’s to say that she can’t do both? Maybe, she will even return to music videos later!
George Michael clearly had great taste when he decided who would appear in the music video for his song “Freedom!” back in 1990. He enlisted some of the most prominent and beautiful stars of the time, like Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, and Cindy Crawford. Basically, the best of the best!
This music video featured more than just a few beautiful women; tons of prominent male figures also appeared in this production. Some other featured celebrities included Todo Segalla, John Pearson, and Mario Sorrenti. George Michael really knew how to pick the best of them!
Supermodel Naomi Campbell reflected on her experience appearing in George Michael’s legendary music video for “Freedom! ‘90” while appearing on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen on Bravo. She said that the night before filming, she tried to get a train back to London… but there were none!
She was appearing in five back-to-back fashion shows in Paris the evening before she was supposed to appear in this music video. She knew that she needed to make it back to London that night, because she had to be on set to film this video first thing in the morning. She had to film running on no sleep!
Cindy Crawford was one of the many drop-dead gorgeous supermodels who starred in this major production. She was honored to find herself at the center of the story, though she wished that she would have had a placement in the video beyond the bathtub!
“I was bummed I got stuck in the bathtub and then after with a towel on my head! But you don’t argue with [director] David Fincher—even then. When I look back, I think we were all presented in a way that reflected us individually,” she told Harper’s Bazaar while reflecting with other supermodels who appeared in the video.
“I think this video struck a chord for so many reasons. First and foremost was the song itself and the message and declaration of ‘freedom’ for George himself. It also coincided with the ‘birth’ of the supermodel and brought music and fashion together in an exciting way,” she told Bazaar.
She continued, “My favorite memory was sitting on a plane on my way to shoot it, listening to the song over and over on my Walkman, trying to learn the words. I instantly loved the song and was excited to be included.” What a once-in-a-lifetime experience for her!
Model Linda Evangelista is one of the best of all time. She’s become one of the most recognizable models of all time, which is probably what landed Evangelista the role in the iconic George Michael video in general. She only reflected positively on her experiences filming.
She told Harper’s Bazaar, “The video captures that feeling, and that feeling is timeless. For me, the effect of appearing in the video was that I was suddenly known outside of the fashion world and in other media that didn’t pertain to fashion. That was incredible.”
Model Linda Evangelista is actually one of the first models that you see in the video, if not the clearest of them all. She reflected on her experience filming this video as some of the most fun that she’s ever had. She was incredibly grateful to have been involved at all.
“One of my favorite memories of shooting the video was George explaining to me that I needed to ‘lip sync’ and not sing along to the track. I wasn’t quite sure what the difference was! He was such a sweetheart. We were a bit naughty off set though as the day went on into late night, that’s all I’ll say…”
Christy Turlington knew that she was far more than just a supermodel who appeared in music videos. After many successful modeling campaigns for designers like Calvin Klein, she wanted to try her hand at something different. A former Vogue creative director referred to her as “the most beautiful woman in the world.”
Turlington was one of the many ‘90s supermodels to appear in George Michael’s iconic music video. She loved the experience, much like the others, and would use the fame she received from the video to blast off into something incredible. She also reflected on some questionable behavior on set at the time of filming.
While speaking with Harper’s Bazaar, she stated, “Linda and I were the only ones who overlapped shooting the video because we had a scene together. It was pretty controversial in retrospect as we were pricking our fingers to be blood sisters at a time when HIV AIDS was rampant.”
She continued, “I remember George being incredibly focused and in control of everything, but also fun in the moments when we got to just hang out… I think the video captures everyone involved at critical junctures in our lives and careers, which none of us could have possibly grasped in the moment, except for George maybe.”
This top fashion model hailed from Germany and became one of the top supermodels in the world. She was one of the models featured in the 2015 book “Models of Influence: 50 Women Who Reset the Course of Fashion” and has since made waves as an animal activist.
She reflected on her experiences filming the video in question. “It represents an era in pop culture, and it was at the height of the early ’90s when the fashion, film and music industries blended together. MTV was huge at the time with all the incredible music videos. I became more recognizable in a different way I think.”
Sharise Neil starred in one of Motley Crüe’s music videos, for the song “Girls Girls Girls” and let’s just say, she clearly stole the show! The video centered around an exotic dancer at a club, who performs for a bunch of bikers. The show gets rowdy when the boys appear at the club.
At the time, she was known as a mud wrestler as well as a model. She was at the center of a ton of controversy after appearing as the vixen in the “Girls Girls Girls” video. The video was so racy, that MTV even banned the video back in 1987!
Sharise Neil was married to Motley Crüe’s frontman, Vince Neil, but they divorced after just two short years together. She’s still managed to remain prominent today, though she’s not in the spotlight nearly as much as many other models appearing in videos were in their careers.
Today, Neil has been designing clothing for her own fashion line. She went on to star on the reality TV show, Ex-Wives of Rock, which was about as big of a hit as you’d imagine it would be. She went on to design stage jackets for high-profile magazine covers, specifically for Rolling Stone magazine.
Back when the video for Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing In The Dark” came out, the King of New Jersey pulled actress Courteney Cox on stage to dance with him. Most people didn’t know at the time that she was just an actress planted in the audience to play that role.
Well, if Springsteen couldn’t start a fire without a spark, Miss Cox certainly did the trick for him! He pulled her on stage randomly and had no clue that she was planted in the audience for that role specifically. She must have been on cloud nine the whole time!
After he pulled her onto stage with him, girls everywhere got their hopes up that they might be in the same situation. That must have fueled a ton of jealousy, but who could blame these crazed fans? Why couldn’t he pull them on stage, if they were all equally as beautiful?
Her appearance in this music video truly helped boost Cox’s career in Hollywood. It put her in a national spotlight that would only come as the result of someone like Bruce Springsteen giving her the attention she clearly deserved. Luck was on her side in so many ways!
Cox has become one of the most recognizable actresses ever. One of her most well-known roles was as Monica Gellar in the popular NBC sitcom, Friends. She’s been nominated for many awards, and even took home a Screen Actors Guild Award. She’s not done taking Hollywood by storm, yet!
These days, she’s still getting nominated for awards. Recently, she was nominated for a daytime Emmy and even appeared on the Friends reunion with other cast members. They also appeared recently on Carpool Karaoke, singing the famous Friends theme song!
OK, fast forward a few years. Now we’re in 2007, and we’re watching pop sensation Justin Timberlake’s “What Goes Around… Comes Around” music video. Johansson was already at the top of her game and putting her as the centerpiece of this music video made her even more coveted than before.
Johansson plays someone at the club who is too bored to spend her time with Timberlake. She asks, “well, what are you going to do to entertain me?” to which he leans in and whispers something likely very naughty. The two leave the club in pursuit of a night of promiscuity.
Oh no, not in the slightest. Scarlett Johansson was already one of the most popular actresses around at the time of her appearance in the video – which is probably why she was selected. That, and her beauty, of course. She’s had a full career and love life since her appearance in this music video.
She’s gone on to star in films in the Marvel universe, Lost in Translation, and Jojo Rabbit amongst others. She was a centerpiece in the critically acclaimed film, Marriage Story, starring alongside actor Adam Driver. Now, she is happily married to Colin Jost, and they’re adorable together!
Back in 2000, actress Mila Kunis made a music video appearance that would never be forgotten. She starred in Aerosmith’s video for the song “Jaded,” about a girl who has lost her ability to feel. She spends the entire video unable to feel what she needed to, but ultimately manages to shed a tear.
Everyone who auditioned for this video was supposed to be 18 years or older, but that didn’t stop a 14-year-old Mila Kunis from giving it her best shot. She told casting directors that she was going to be 18; she just left out when that was going to happen!
At the time of filming, That ‘70s Show was already well underway. This video might have helped her exposure in Hollywood even further, though, as she was already well on her way to becoming one of the most recognizable faces in entertainment today.
Since appearing in this epic Aerosmith video, she has had an ultimately successful career. After moving to the United States from Ukraine at age seven, she started auditioning for anything she possibly could. She appeared in Black Swan as well as Forgetting Sarah Marshall, among other classic films.
Before she appeared by Will Smith’s side in the film Hitch, she had a brief appearance in Will Smith’s music video for the song “Miami,” from back in 1998. Her appearance is rather short, just a quick drive by in a convertible while mouthing some words in Spanish quite seductively.
She wasn’t the same big star we know her as today, but she was certainly well on her way to stardom. She mouthed the words “Bienvenidos a Miami,” leading everyone watching to lose their minds because she was just that attractive! Luckily, things turned out pretty well for Mendes.
Well, maybe it doesn’t have much to do with her appearance in this music video–but it certainly didn’t hurt her, either! She went on to star in Hitch alongside the actor who put her in the music video to begin with, Mr. Will Smith.
After many successful projects like Training Day and Exit Wound, the actress had her choice at just about any project her heart desired. She recently made the choice to step away and quit acting. She has been partners with Ryan Gosling for ages and they’re really cute together!
Again, it seems that supermodels take over the world of music videos time and time again. Whether it’s 1981 or 2021, beautiful women seem to get cast in successful and noteworthy projects because they are nice to look at. Enter supermodel Gigi Hadid, the star of a few music videos.
One of the most scandalous music video releases in pop culture today was when Gigi Hadid appeared in Zayn Malik’s music video for his single “PILLOWTALK” – it wasn’t totally random, there were rumors of a relationship between the two, but this music video confirmed everything.
Not only did Hadid appear as the centerpiece of the music video, but there are also even parts when they kiss and get really into it! This was pretty much the way that Hadid and Malik announced their relationship to the world. They chose to go public in a way unlike any other.
The two went on to have a long relationship, followed by a very public break up. The video itself is a whirlwind, much like watching their relationship. Recently, the two took a giant life step together and welcomed a son. To think – it all started with a music video!
Around the same time as Malik’s video, Hadid starred in a music video for electronic artist Calvin Harris. She starred in the video for “How Deep Is Your Love” from 2015, in what is clearly a piece of art disguised as a techno music video.
She seemingly starts out in a morgue, or some strange type of medical office, initially covered in plastic with her hospital bracelet, lying on a table – the viewer is unaware of whether she is alive or not. She wakes up, finds herself in some kind of underground electronic club, taking off on a unique kind of adventure.
This fun-loving dog mom made a significant appearance in Robin Thicke’s music video for the song “Blurred Lines” in which she just danced around, not really doing anything of substance. Her job seemed pretty straight forward; be the token hot girl that dances around and draws your eye.
Well, she most certainly succeeded. This was when her brand as “Emrata” began. The video, which came out in 2013, pretty much launched her career. She may have a famous parent, but it was when she broke out into modeling, that she began doing something other than riding on her father’s coattails.
In one of his most memorable songs yet, music legend Billy Joel put American dreamboat Christie Brinkley at the center of his video for “Uptown Girl” and fans were happy to see it! The model, actress, and entrepreneur caught Joel’s eye and he felt she was the best person to tell the song’s story.
The video follows a group of men in an autobody shop and plays out like a musical number from a Broadway Show. The crew sees a beautiful woman in front of them, and they all dance together in harmony. It was an intricate dance number that foreshadowed what was to come for the two!
Just two years after her appearance in the “Uptown Girl” music video, Christie Brinkley and Billy Joel were married. She spent 25 years as the face of Cover Girl, after multiple consecutive covers on Sports Illustrated. She was also signed to many major fashion brands and appeared on over 500 magazine covers!
Her career lasted more than three decades, though her marriage to Joel didn’t. They were married in 1985 and divorced in 1994. She had two more marriages after, totaling four marriages. She had multiple acting gigs, and even had a recurring role as Gayle Gergich on NBC’s Parks and Recreation.
