With all her connections in the entertainment industry, it’s not too surprising that Aretha Franklin has some famous friends. Naturally, the star ended up as the Godmother of another famous name – Whitney Houston. The two were incredibly close, and Houston referred to her godmother as Auntie Ree.

Franklin was set to perform at her funeral, but unfortunately, she wasn’t able to be there because she was suffering from severe leg spasms. After being criticized for her absence, the singer said, “God knows I wanted to be there, but I couldn’t.”
