Bouncing Back
Aretha Franklin returned to the top of the charts in 1985 with her smash-hit album “Who’s Zoomin’ Who?” The album was a polished pop record featuring the hit song “Freeway of Love.” The album also included a collaboration with The Eurythmics (the rock band), and the record became her best-selling album.
In 1986, her follow-up album came out and it also did extremely well. It included a duet with George Michael called “I Knew You Were Waiting,” and it hit number one on the pop charts. The entire album eventually went gold. In 1987, Aretha made history when she became the first female artist to be inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She also received an honorary doctorate from the University of Detroit.
