Music Was Always Part of His Life
Born on May 5, 1989, in Tappahannock, Virginia, Christopher Maurice Brown had a music-filled childhood. His mother, Joyce Hawkins, was a daycare center director, and his father, Clinton Brown, was a corrections officer. When his parents were at work, Brown would listen to his parents’ soul albums and dance around the house.
His parents didn’t have much money, so Brown taught himself how to sing and dance. He would watch videos of Michael Jackson and imitate his moves. Brown wanted to become a performer, so he joined his church choir and entered the local talent shows. His mom quickly saw how gifted her son was.
