Other than a mineral water bottling plant, very few businesses were opening their doors. Lynne worked as a second-grade teacher at the nearby elementary school, while Jamie worked as a contractor. With most of his projects a few hours away in Memphis, Jamie only came home on the weekends.

“Jamie is clean now, but when Britney was growing up, he was a horrible addict,” one of Jamie’s former managers told Rolling Stone Magazine in 2008. “She is the product of some very, very bad genetics.” As a way of relieving some of the pressure in her marriage, Lynne became fixated on her talented daughter. When Britney was just three years old, she was already enrolled in the choir and gymnastics and dance lessons.
